Costumes for our prelim

Our first character played by myself is going to be wearing casual warm clothes consisting of jeans, trainers, shirt, jacket and possibly a hoodie as the weather conditions may be very snowy

Our other character played by Rory Crymble Will be wearing large dark clothing as he will be playing our villain. His face will be obscured the whole time by his hood to hide his identity.
I wanted to keep the costumes as plain and simple as possible (nothing too flashy). Due to the weather being fairly cold I went for standard dark jackets and hoodies.

I chose hoodies as they portray Rory to be a mysterious character

Locations for our movie titles

We will be shooting the majority of our scenes next to my house where there are vacant stables and outbuildings and a lane with a large bridge over it which we will be using to get some interesting camera shots i.e. birdseye view.

The stables were semi derelict and were once inhabited by a small holder and his animals. Some of his belongings still remained and the atmosphere of the buildings has always seemed slightly spooky to me which we thought was appropriate for the atmosphere we wished to create. At one point  on the second day of shooting we noticed some objects, a shoe and some dominoes, that were not there on the first day of shooting. This made us feel even more edgy.

The lane alongside the the buildings was long and straight enough to get some good long shots. It also led to dead end and so there was hardly any passing traffic to interrupt the shoot.

A motorway bridge crosses the lane which creates a dark tunnel effect which we used on the shoot.

We also used a nearby footpath which had high banking with fairly thick undergrowth which was good stalking territory.

Our last scenes we shot in a near by woods which we didn't intend on filming in as our first desired place we were going to shoot was under construction. however we thought this played to our advantage as this opened up a variety of different camera shots that we used. we were advised not to shoot in woodland areas as the lighting can be quite poor however it was a small open enough wood.

Story Board (synopsis)

Scene 1
The scene starts off with an extreme long that focuses on the snow in the trees then the camera shot gradually goes down and focuses on my character walking down a lonely road with my dog. This will be taken in a long shot to establish the scene. We will then go into a jump shot which will be of the man and dog's walking feet. Followed by another jump shot of the man entering the underpass, which will be shot as a Birdseye view.

Scene 2
The second scene will be myself coming out of the underpass with another Birdseye shot, which will be exited by a tilting shot of the camera following myself down the road. We will then have a tracking shot where the camera will follow myself down the road creating a jump cut. We will come out of this shot through a pan shot, which will establish the scene.

Scene 3
I will let go of Bingo's (the dog) lead as I ties up my shoe laces. The dog will then run off up a side path towards some vacant stables. This whole shot will be taken in  a medium-long shot. We will then have me running up the path trying to catch Bingo, this shot will be taken from behind me so you can see the stables in the back ground and then see Bingo enter them. The camera will be placed in one of the three stables and will follow me as I run past two of the stables and into the third

Scene 4 will follow me into the stables. There will be a shot of me taking out his earphones, which will stop the non diagetic music. Close up shots will be used throughout this scene as we follow me around the room. I will then take out a torch and it will shine on the bad guy in the corner, but go past him as I will not immediately realize, but then will jump back to him. We will then take a floor shot of the torch falling to the floor.

Scene 5 is where i starts to back up and turns around and sees another dark figure in the corner of the next room. He turns and sees that the other figure from the previous room has gone. All this is taken in a mixture of action shots, close ups, and point of view shots.

Scene 6
This is the chase scene, tracking shots will follow my character as I start sprinting up the lane. We're planning to use a few POV shots (point of view). The camera keeps on seeing the hooded figure in random places. (jump shots)

For our opening film titles the props we're deciding on are:

A knife- we are intending on brrowing a standard kitchen knife, nothing too fancy.

Fake blood-we could either make our own corn syrup by mixing corn syrup, red food colouring and nesquick or simply purchase some.

Torch-we've both got a regular click torch.

Matches- we will be using large cooking matches so the flame lasts longer and gives off more light.

Mobile phone- we intend on using a large touch screen phone preferable  a large android phone (iPhone) as we plan on showing one of our titles on the screen.

Dog- I've got sheep dog at home which we'll be using for the opening scenes

The costumes we are planning to use are going to be fairly dark and dingy to portray a scary character

We're aiming to shoot a horror opening with titles. We're aware that this has been done before many times and not to a great level. We plan on differentiating our clip by avoiding woodland scenes with poor camera lighting.

The majority of the research that we have put into this task has mainly been composed of watching a variety of opening horror titles:

Zombie land- althought this is more comical than horror there were some very good slow motion scenes used during the titles, this gave the graphic scenes more depth to it especially with the spluttering blood.
i tried to incorporate this into my movie but in my opinion we didn't have enough visual effects (fake Blood) and it would of clashed with the suspense of our movie.

Dexter- this is a t.v series but still has a pretty good title sequence. The shots chosen in the titles are very interesting close ups focusing on specific objects, which portray different murder tactics.

A little shaving cut with a glimmer of blood on the white sink puts into contrast how the scene looks, it starts to look more and more like a horror film. As well as the blood red text that also shows the horror film context.

Delicatessen- this movie title sequence intises the viewer as the camera focuses on specific items like books, ledgers. which has a really spooky old feel to it. The titles are done very well as they're engraved on to the items.

They use specific items that correspond to  the staff's job:
Camera=director
Ledger=Producers
Label on clothing= Costumes

blairwitchproject- In my view i find this to be the most inspirational movie for our particular movie titles. As we plan on using the same camera shot techniques (point of view).
low budget film. like paranormal activity. the concept that really stood out to me about this film was the realism of it by using a handy cam camera like our own. Alot of our scenes were very similar such as the woodland scene and the cellar scene

Avatar movie review

Avatar is a scifi-ish/action movie which was released in December 18th 2009. Directed by James Cameron. The Digital footage is truly breath taking as The story goes as most history goes. Discover new world, find purpose for it, take it over. This story line may seem similar in some aspects (Pochahontus).
It's a futuristic Pilgrims and Indians. It's about:
soil, animals, trees, water, air and is almost a poster child for saving the planet and going Green. It is a phenomenal piece of work of CGI which you will be completely immersed in. It's a Star Wars type of epic film people will be watching for years to come.
